I’ve always used photoshop which doesn’t have the feature that smooths out your lines for you and I’ve never had good motor skills so for me to draw neat lines I have to concentrate hard and it takes me a long time to do them. So when I got into the MLP art community I was amazed and envious over how neat some of my favorite artists lines were and how skilled and controlled they had to be to get them. I thought if I just keep working I could get there someday too.
Then one day I started watching their art streams and learned that with SAI there’s a feature that will fix your lines for you, no matter how bad you draw them. I had never really understood before why so many artists prefer SAI to PS. It was disappointing to learn it wasn’t their own talent that helped them with that part. I still envy their style of arts and consider them to be amazing artists, I just don’t look to them anymore for inspiration to improve my pen control.

Lawl. The stabilizer doesn’t do the same trick than the lineart tool in Flash. The stabilizer is just that, it stabilizes the microscopical jittering that your hand naturally does. Physics and chemistry does the same trick on traditional media, but an electronical tablet is much less forgiving.
Artists prefer SAI over photoshop, because Photoshop is an image manipulation program, whereas SAI is a drawing program. One of them is made for smoothing out wrinkles from your photos and the other for actual drawing which makes SAI more superior in that regards. It’s also much more lightweight and doesn’t hog so much system resources.
I’m a PhotoShop user but lately most of my digital lines aren’t done 100% by hand anymore as I use a different cheat than the SAI stabilizer.
I use the circle tool to make perfect curves and box tool to make straight lines, which I piece together bit by bit until it forms an image based on a beforehand made sketch underneath the layers. Because I can’t make those perfect, stable lines by hand and I never tried using SAI although that stabilizer function seems interesting.
Which one is the worst cheat though?
Personally I don’t care and still consider the finished result my own work, it’s simply the technique I use to make pretty, stable lineart digitally. Although after learning how to digitally colour pencil sketches I have just kept my hand drawn pencil lines and coloured my drawings that way, so most of my works are without the circle tool cheat I guess.
We use the techniques we do to get the results we want and I don’t think it undermines the work in any way.

yeah, no shit. I don’t even use the stabilizer at all, I never have. Specifically because other programs don’t have it, and it’s better practice in the long run
Guys, using the stabalizer isn’t cheating, it is using the tools that are available to you effectively. Some people use the stabalizer to help steady their hand in SAI, some people use manga studio’s predone manga patterns and scratchmarks, some people use PS because of its wide variety of customization and professional art tools.
ART IS ART.
It doesn’t matter what you use to make it, be in digital or traditional or fucking CAVE PAINTINGS. You can have every tool at your disposal, but without the skill and VISION that every artist, no matter their medium, HAS to train themselves in, the tools are not going to help you any more than they help others.
