A whiteout is a weather condition in which visibility and contrast are severely reduced by snow. The horizon disappears completely and there are no reference points at all, leaving the individual with a distorted orientation. Shadows are also not cast due to a continuous white cloud layer appearing to merge with the white snow surface.
Take it from someone living in Norway. These things are horrifying! If its bad enough you can get lost only a few feet from a cabin and since there is wind your tracks dissappears fast making it quite possible that you can freeze to death at the edge of your lawn because you can’t see anything.
The solution of course is to lock your doors and windows and never ever ever leave your house again.
